"Crossing, blurring, and seeing through the lines between techno and electronic experimentalism, Inerex is one Carlos Archuleta, prepping our bare ears for the future of sound with atonal beats and abrupt dark fun. This is hardly a dance disc, there is even a bit of (dare I say it) goth in the opening Zekit. The dialing combination of jittery symphonics are percussive and abstract. Having worked in the fields of theater, film and performance art there is a certain aesthetic to these manufactured glitches and tonal play. This disc sounds like a warm-up before a rave as though he is working out some minor anxieties to a free beat. Each track has its own signature, its own confluence of ready ideas. There is a bit of smartness to this CD, riddled with a fever for the flavor of metal in its deconstruction. There are the expected beats, but its almost offhanded and served before ripe. At almost 75 minutes, this debut from Inerex has some potential to breed beyond its brain next time. This is the spawn of bands like Goem and Farmers Manual. Keep your hands in your pockets where I can’t see ‘em!"--TJ Norris-[writing for:Vital Weekly (The Netherlands), Tablet (Seattle), Just Out (Portland), Grooves Magazine (USA), Capital Magazine (CA), Instrumental Weekly (WI)
"Juddering and jumping, juggling broken beats against a frozen backdrop of skittering electronics, this is a sharp-edged, finely-tuned recording with all the startling clarity of a bright winter's morning after a night on the metholated spirits. In this context the blistering assault of ‘Phresis’ is particularly painful, followed as it is by the even more abrasive ‘Kreh’. Other tracks are more ambient in nature (the sinister soundscape of ‘Nome’ being particularly successful), or more rhythmical: ‘Nete’ could be Pan Sonic, ‘Kilkenbace’ sounds like Goem. The solo project of one Carlos Archuleta, formerly trading as Project Locutus, Inerex shows an ability to innovate and to surprise - the sudden high pitched tinkerings on ‘Atda.ball’, for instance, guaranteed to set your teeth on edge. And so, rising shakily from the discomforts of our bed, The Girl and I gaze sombrely out from the bedroom window, the horrors of the pantomime season hard upon us. "Who's that hiding in the garden, looks like Osama Bin Laden," I intone dutifully. She considers for a moment. "Not Bin Laden, way too fat. Looks much more like next door's cat". Nothing like a bit of sonic terrorism with your cornflakes to get you going in the morning. More meths anybody?"--STEWART GOTT - 17 December 2001- flux europa- [Flux Europa | Waste management and dumpster rentals]
