REVIEWS
"This is a great first taste of this small label out of Denver carrying the sounds of artists such as terrorstate, inerex and label master, j.frede. Limited to a mere 500 copies, Hyperacusis starts off with the beat driven, stop-start dance track, Goathead, by oto. Bass in the place in this fast-paced wired drive building and vanishing into inerex’s (Carlos Archuleta) Spatial Prophecies, an atonal dark ambient recess that wavers with mechanical goings-on. Before you know it the mix blends seamlessly into j.frede’s Fall Into Sleep 3.2. The sound is ominous, pulsating and three-dimensional. The drone filled atmosphere lays out a curious wall of sound that seems timeless and enormously spatial. Having worked with artists like E.A.R. and Francisco Lopez, j.frede’s work has been presented in installation format as well. slip presents the sub-ambient Interceptor that acts as the voice of infinity. Almost inaudibly tweaking the barriers of volume, knobs and levers are toyed with to effect. There is a subtle, earnest approach to the deliverance of encoded messages here, like a communication channel to an alternate universe. New Mexico’s Terrorstate (Chris Aka) paints the room in shades of gray, silver, off-white. Sandbar is an experimental ambient piece that plays with the pacing of classic Hitchcockian film scores. Aka is wired for the future of the future. With an undercurrent of shadowy drama this track begs to be played as accompaniment to a silent film. Matt Bonal has trained his laptop to speak in tones as evidenced on si2 galloping with pulses and quiet rhythmic sizzle. On a disc charged with new vocabularies, Hyperacusis pleases with variation and circumstance."--TJ Norris [WRITING FOR: Vital Weekly (the Netherlands), Tablet (Seattle), Just Out (Portland), Grooves Magazine (USA), Instrumental Weekly (WI)]//////////
--------------------------------------"This Ritual Document label compilation contains two tracks each by six different acts. Inerex, takes advantage of the opportunities for contrast this presents: 'Spatial prophecies' is a minimal whine and whistle track; 'Nett' a scraping, juddering slab of electronica. The other artist I knew about, j. frede, also turns in two excellent tracks, the better of which, 'Absence', sounds very much like decent Thomas Koner ('Nuuk' or'Permafrost'). Oto's 'Goathead' and 'Expander' are great - sort of leftfield, mucked up drum 'n' bass, although I'm not sure how well the tracks sit with the rest of the CD. The two Terrorstate tracks, like those provided by Inerex, also contrast nicely. 'Sandbar', my favourite track on the compilation, treads a gloomy, meandering path through uneasy twilight, while '7-45' is grinding, screeching and bumpy.....another highlight of what is an impressive compilation, from an interesting label."--STEWART GOTT (writes for: FLUX EUROPA [[ @ www.fluxeuropa.com]) in ]

--------------------------------------------"....As with any so-varied sampler platter, you'll like some, gorge yourself silly on others and just nibble the corners on a few and hope none sees you spitting them into a napkin. Sleeved in black vinyl, hyperacusis balances the starkly brutal with plenty of esoterically calm while staying rooted in sheerly experimental modes."--David J Opdyke (writes for: Ambientrance [[ @ www.ambientrance.org] in ]
