you know this situation: you get together with friends or new aquaintences for a jam. you start out in E minor. two hours later, you're still in E minor.
What do you do?
how do you break out of the rut?
Is there something better than shouting out "A flat! A flat!"
Is there a way to end the jam in some non-crappy fashion?
What are the options? |

| yeah...mabey you should get a dry erase board and write "after so and so measures we can change to so and so for this many measures" i did that and it worked out really good..eathier that or just make some sheet music,tabs or memorize it.if therse vocals it makes it much easier to memorize it..after the vocal part breakdown or kick it up a little..you get the picture |

how do dj's do it?
can conventional musicians change what they are playing in the same way that dj's do? what happens when there are two or more dj's spinning. whats going on there?
i would like to develop a whole new strategy. any suggestions? |

well ive never dj'd before but i have wittnessed it..aparentally there are diffeerent style to mix stuff some records have loops of different things..drums,bass,fx etc.they put drums or bass on 1 table and fx,bass,whatever on the other.they switch stuff out on 1 table while the other is playing.and there is stuff that has entire beats and theyll cross between em and try to blend em back and fourth.ive also seen dj's use a sampler and punch in and out like that.
but if you wanted to play instruments like that it would be pretty juxtaposed.youd be giving your drummer the bass guitar mid song and bass going to keys etc
but its entirely possible and would be quite impressive..but youd want to get a second opinion.dj's like other musicians always have tricks and stratigies so.. |

| Do not start in Em. Modulate. Try the relative minor. Play thru the chord scale. Harmonize. Play ambient with no discernable key center. Use stacked 5ths to make it a bit more ambigous. There's lots of different strategies. But then again, poor Em gets maligned unnessecarily. there's a Kosmos in every key. |
