While browsing the Propellerhead Software website, I came across an incredible article on mastering. This article makes almost no mention of any specific software and focuses on theory. Complete with images and mp3 samples!
A few of the interesting facts it contains are:
* our ears judge loudness not by peaks but by averages * normalizing a song with a max peak of 0dB does nothing * limiters chop off everything above a certain dB level * human ears have a built in compressor/limiter
You'll have to read the rest yourself, but trust me... THis article is incredibly easy to understand and is sure to help many of you learn how to master your tracks better.

Enjoy! |

The Science of Audio Mastering? Reason? Please. This is a quote from the article you praise...
Reason is by no means a mastering tool, it should be used for composition and mixing, after which you should render the audio files at the highest possible bit depth and sampling frequency your software and hardware can handle, for further processing outside Reason. The interesting facts you're propagating are actually elements of mixing my friend. They are selling software with this article... |

Dr. Nyquist said: The interesting facts you're propagating are actually elements of mixing my friend. Yes, I know Mr smarty pants! That's why I posted it, because I noticed that the intersting facts in the article were actually not reason specific.
Why don't you post a link to an article about audio mastering? I'd love to learn more, and since you're scoffing at this article like you're an expert, suerly you have something valuable to share! |

I was just a little grumpy from you slamming my post about audiotap for the mac... that's all. I would be more than happy to share some info with you and this forum... I'm only concerned about sharing ideas and keeping information true... I really don't have the time to get into a pissing contest here, so can we be friends now? Much Love Honey... THE Dr. Nyquist. |

hay, fox, come over, dude.. i can drink enuf beer to out piss you fersher.. hmm the article is actually pretty good in a layman way - which i am - not being *actually* *really* trained on *anything* - but.. keith has posted a great form here at some point a while back - that was a bit higher of a learning curve.. but very educational none-the-less - a few of the things mentioned were also covered in what he posted - this is something that i have had problems with since i started - engineering and mastering... |

i wanna no know who wants to be pissed on... ... i have had enough of people being pissed off (myself included)! oh yeah and what about some chat for us dinosaurs who prefer hardware for recording and mastering, i recently acquired a Behringer tube composer so the whole compressor/limiter with thresholds and ratios and all is opening up and causing me to have more questions than answers... |
